The 2025 Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has officially set the tone for an exciting 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership season, with several key decisions and timelines unveiled.
According to the season calendar released during the meeting, the new Premiership season will kick off on November 26, 2025, and conclude on April 22, 2026. Clubs will engage in four match weeks before proceeding on a Christmas break, with fixtures resuming on January 7, 2026.
A total of 20 clubs will feature in the topflight this season. In line with the league’s promotion and relegation structure, six teams will be relegated at the end of the campaign, while two clubs will gain promotion from the NWFL Championship, and another two will drop from the Championship to the NWFL Nationwide League.
The AGA also reaffirmed player eligibility rules, maintaining that the age limit for registration remains 15–17 years, with clubs allowed to register no more than three underaged players per squad.
In its drive toward transparency and accountability, the NWFL directed all participating clubs to submit annual financial reports at the end of every season, strengthening the league’s financial governance standards.
Furthermore, the league body announced that online registration for clubs ahead of the new campaign will open on November 14, 2025, and automatically close on November 22, 2025. To assist teams in the registration process, video tutorials will be circulated before the portal’s opening date.
The 2025 AGA once again highlighted the league’s commitment to professionalism, structure, and player development, as stakeholders gear up for what promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in the history of women’s football in Nigeria.
